DIFFICULTY DELAYING GRATIFICATION

  • Difficulty working toward goals
  • Doesn't respond well to rewards

The primary characteristics of ADD are not difficult to recognize in the classroom. However, not all children who are inattentive, impulsive, or overactive have ADD/ADHD.

These same symptoms can be a result of other factors and circumstances in a child's life. For this reason, it is extremely important that an accurate diagnosis be made.

At the Behavioral Medicine Center's ADD Clinic, a comprehensive assessment involving the parents, teachers, and child will be used to determine whether problems are the result of ADD or other factors.

TREATMENT APPROACHES FOR CHILD

  • BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT
  • STIMULANT MEDICATION
  • EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTIONS
  • INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING

For maximum benefit, it is recommended that parent counseling, behavior management, and educational follow-up be utilized when medication is administered.

ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER IN ADULTS
