What is Delta 8 THC?

Delta (Δ) is a term used in math and chemistry to describe a variation of something. In the case of delta 8 THC, it’s a variation of the THC molecule — which you’re probably aware is the primary active ingredient in marijuana plants.

Delta 9 THC is the most abundant cannabinoid in marijuana — making up about 99% of the THC profile of the plant. This molecule has a double bond on the 9th carbon chain — hence the name, delta 9.

Delta 8 THC is far less abundant — only constituting 1% (or less) of the total THC profile of the plant. As the name implies, the delta 8 THC molecule has a double bond on the 8th carbon chain.
Delta 8 is often referred to as “weed light”. It’s much milder and less likely to produce side effects like hyperstimulation. This makes it the perfect cannabinoid to use in the evenings, in conjunction with public speaking, or if you tend to avoid THC because of these stimulating qualities.

What Does Delta 8 THC Feel Like?

Delta 8 feels very similar to delta 9 THC — but with a bit of a twist.
Compared to delta 9, delta 8 is much more mellow. It’s popular among people who wish to use the compound to chill out at home, wind down for bed, or offset the inevitable stress we absorb throughout the day.

Delta 8 is much more relaxing than delta 9, and about 50% as strong. All this means is you’ll need to take about twice as many drops to get the same results.

Is Delta 8 THC Legal?

Regulations around the use of cannabis-derived substances are in constant flux. Every year, new research is published that contradicts our current perspectives on criminalizing the use of both plant-based and synthetic substances.

Research has consistently shown that by decriminalizing substances (such as cannabis), drug addiction rates go down, quality of life improves, and we experience less police brutality and marginalization for non-violent crimes.

When it comes to delta 8, there are two categories it can fall under from a legal perspective. Which laws apply to you depend on where you live:
Finest Labs
1. Legal by proxy

States that have no specific state laws on delta 8 THC fall back onto federal laws. The 2018 Farm Bill signed by President Trump permits any hemp-derived products that contain less than 0.3% delta 9 THC.

Finest Labs
2. Illegal

Some states have extended the regulations put in place by the federal government to ban all isomers of THC over 0.3%. This makes delta 8 THC products illegal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Tincture?

Tinctures have been around for thousands of years. The term refers to a liquid extract of a plant or fungi. Tinctures are most often made using alcohol, but can also be made from oil or glycerine.

Our tinctures are made by diffusing our active delta 8 THC distillate in an MCT carrier oil. Doing this makes it easier to use, and dramatically improves absorption through the gut.

Delta 8 THC, like all cannabinoids, are fat-soluble. This means it has to follow the fat-absorption pathway in the gut. This pathway takes a lot more energy and is less efficient than water-soluble compounds. The MCT oil in these tinctures prime the body for fat absorption and allows for a greater concentration of delta 8 to enter the bloodstream.

How Do I Use Delta 8 THC Tinctures?

There are a few ways to use a delta 8 THC tincture. The simplest method is to place a few drops of the oil under the tongue. Hold it here for about 60 seconds before swallowing.

The method leverages what’s called sublingual absorption — which is the absorption of active ingredients through a network of capillaries under the tongue. This allows the delta 8 to take effect much faster.

The second method is to swallow the oil directly, or mix it in with foods, drinks, or a smoothie. Many people will mix it in with a bulletproof coffee or their daily smoothie.

How Much Tincture Should I Take?

Our tinctures are standardized to deliver just over 15 mg of delta 8 THC per mL. The droppers that are built-in to the bottle are designed to dispense exactly 1 mL for every dropper.

To fill the dropper, first empty is completely. Next, squeeze the rubber top and allow it to suck up some oil. The oil should fill roughly 75% of the glass pipette.

Most people find 1 full dropper (1 mL) is just right, but you should start with half a dropper first to see how it affects you. You can then increase or decrease the dose accordingly.

For those of you who want a precise dose, you can also count the drops. One drop of oil contains roughly 0.5 mg of delta 8 THC.

How Do I Store My Tinctures?

We supply our tinctures in a sealed container made with dark colored glass. This is designed to protect the oil from exposure to light and oxygen which will degrade the active ingredients inside the bottle.

In order to prolong the shelf-life of your tincture, avoid storing it in direct light or in a hot area of the house. It’s also wise to make sure the lid is completely sealed before you store it for any extended period of time.

You do not need to refrigerate your tinctures, but if you plan to store it for more than 12 months, this isn’t a bad idea.

Do These Tinctures Use Flavor Additives?

We flavor all of our tinctures because the taste of raw delta 8 THC is not very palatable. MCT oil smooths out the flavor, but doesn’t add anything extra to make using these tinctures more enjoyable.

For this reason, we’ve chosen to offer our tinctures in a few different flavors.
Our specialty is terpene extraction, so naturally, we’ve decided to use these delicious terpene extracts to flavor our delta 8 THC tinctures. We don’t use any synthetic flavorings or additives to our tinctures — just pure, all-natural plant-derived terpenes.

Terpenes do a great job at imparting flavor to the oil, but they lack sweetness. There are no sugars or sweeteners in terpenes, so we also add a small amount of stevia extract to add some depth to the flavor profile.
